The Arc PLAN was created to provide a Policy and Legislative Advocacy Network that coincides the most effective use of our people and financial resources. We work with and for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, and are not paid services through federal, state or county tax dollars. We are affiliated with other Arc chapters, including The Arc of Colorado and The Arc of the United States.
The individual members of The Arc PLAN organizations are people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families, friends and advocates. From human and family perspectives, as individuals who live with many daily challenges, they know the importance of timely and effective assistance with various issues in their lives. In fact, these are the very people that the special education and developmental disability systems were created to support. However, in the multi-million dollar developmental disability public policy arena the voices of the individuals served are almost never heard.
The Arc PLAN looks forward to presenting a strong voice for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. You will hear of formal and informal opportunities to dialogue and work together. You will see information, reports and timely issue papers in the Capitol, state department offices and other centers for policy development. Most importantly, our members will touch you because they will speak from the heart!
We look forward to creating an information foundation upon which to build respectful relationships for all Coloradans, including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
